Directions to Duncan Cedar Tree, south of Forks WA

Two years ago, Halvar and I found the way to this tree, with no problems. Even with pulling a 19 ft camping trailer we succeeded to stay out of trouble. This weekend I was taking my wife, Tess, for her first visit with "Mr Duncan". We ended up missing the last turn sign, and drove another 7-8 miles up the mountains till we gave up and turned around. After some GPS trouble shooting, and checking on some poor maps from internet, we could cover the losses, and finally after an extra 90 minutes we got to our goal. Now I decided to make directions , close to "idiot proof"", so no one else should have to struggle finding this amazing historic memorial tree. The worlds largest Cedar tree alive.

How to find the Worlds largest Cedar tree, The Duncan Cedar Tree,  about 21 miles south of downtown Forks WA USA.

The Duncan Cedar is located a 4.1 mile drive east of US 101. The exit from US 101 between located between mp 170 and mp 171. Travelling from Forks you will see this sign on US 101, approaching the exit. I would assume there is a similar sign for traffic going north.
Expect a 4.2 mile drive on narrow side roads, most gravel roads.
This is an edited screen shot from my Galaxy Note II smart phone.

Drive about 1.2 miles east on this paved side road. About 250 ft before a split, you will see this sign.

Keep right another 1.7 miles (2.9 miles from US 101). At intersection you will see this sign.

Go straight ahead another 0.7 miles (3.6 miles from US 101).
At intersection you will see this sign.
Attention!! This is definitely the sign that is easy to miss, and that will make you a very very long day....
Look for this blue sign a few hundred feet up the road from the intersection
Turn right... You are very close now...

and go another 0.4 miles (4.0 miles from US 101), and see this sign..
Turn right, and drive about 600ft up the hill.
Up by the Duncan Cedar Tree, there is a pretty large "T", to turn your vehicle and park. I suggest you stop and walk from this sign, and check if there are any other vehicles/visitors parked in front of the tree. If not, If no other visitor is parked up by the tree, there is space enough to turn around a pick up truck pulling a 20 ft trailer, and park with out blocking for another visitor behind you.
This last 600 ft stretch is a dead end road. I you can, it is a good idea to have one of your passengers walk up to make sure no other visitor is coming down, leaving the Duncan Cedar Tree.

Kassakon går in i fördelningspolitiken....The Cash cow join wealth distribution politics...

VARNING!

WARNING! The content of this blog may be offensive, annoying and damn "nosy". Some parts are only to be entertaining, and does not intend to offend, those  mentioned  .... "freedom of speach, so to say ..."
If you do not feel you can digest my biased description of the Swedish society, then I can  comfort you, because it works the same on my side of the pond .... "we imprison the petty thieves, while the big culprits go free ...."

The time is 3:30 in the morning here in the Pacific Northwest, and only Kaiser and I are awake. Kaiser resting on my favorite couch, so he has to move, so I can sit down with my freshly brewed cup of coffee. My coffee life has definitely earned itself a shake-up since we were bought our Keurig K-cup coffee maker. This is how it works ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDE6bQi_bHI

While I sip my freshly brewed coffee, San Francisco Bay French Roast, I'll go through my news snippets from Sweden, in Östersund Posten, I find an article about the cows are turned loose in "the woods full of wolves" ...(exaggerates about the wolves, and the article describes a farmer that raises cows for very exclusive meat, on his 70 acre woods)

"Cash cow" is a concept that really makes sense when reading this article. Good that there is a place for this kind of niche in agriculture. Purely economically, it means maybe not so much. It's exports that matter if welfare is to be maintained. And "Average Joe" will probably never be able to afford to pay $300-$800 for a luxury dinner with 3oz of meat. Still, the waiting list for a table at the restaurant is probably several months.
If  this is the case that there are quite a few people who have a large surplus of cash, and are willing to share their wealth, then I think it is worth to try "free drift" cow system. Not because it creates so many jobs. Farmer Englund, will of course not hire someone to stand and watch the cows while they bask in the moss and eat blueberries with a hint of healthy forest grass. For monitoring, he uses IP cameras that can do that more efficiently and less expensively. The 2-3 star Michelin restaurant will probably be able to raise the salary of its dishwashers by 50 cents per hour, and that's positive. It will reduce the pressure on the welfare budget, hahaha ....

Speaking of bait cameras, I wonder how the national wolf conservation  policy will be affected, now that all CEO dinners are at risk of being ruined by a growing wolf population? Those who believe that the wolf population is too dense, might get unexpected help from Reinfeltds (Swedens Prime minister) dinner guests,,,
Since wolves do not eat carrion, and prefer to kill and eat their prey alive. Man like fresh killed animals but let meat age for a while before it is cooked and eaten.  So here we have another "business opportunity", Change the name of a game or bait camera to cow camera, just like that, the national economy got a big boost....

Would it be possible to export this amazing meat? Hmmm ... Then this Swedish meat establishment be in the same class of meat, as beef from the United States, Argentina or Australia. Could possible be, but who could afford to make the comparison? On sale, I pay approximately $8 per lbs, for "boneless prime rib" or "New York cut steak. For more exclusive cuts of meat  like fillet of beef, then I add $3 per lbs.

Yayaya ... that damn nagging about hormones, and organic, etc. I know, I know ... stop nagging now .... I'm over 60 and will not die of hormone poisoning, my body has been subjected to more serious conditions, such as a total mental breakdown, from golf addiction. It is mentally depleting to be hcp 5-10, while in my 50's Luckily, I'm now free from symptoms. Tiger Woods convinced me, a few years ago, that golf is harmful, especially with a five-iron in the golf bag. I should add that I can relapse, while on vacation to Norderöns Golf Course ... with a borrowed five iron ....

The "rich" do not give a f**k about the environment, or organically grown, or that electric cars are the right thing. The main thing is that there is a CO2-free Toyota Prius on their drive way, and that they can brag about only eating organic food, which cost three times as much. With their sport boat, a three 225 hp craft  out in the archipelagos destroying the environment, they only show the environmentally friendly Prius on the driveway ..... sigh ....

Nah, I would think that "exports" of this meat will be limited to those who pay taxes in the Cayman Islands, or Monaco. And that would be great, if these tax frauders, began to repatriate their money to Sweden. Then we have tax frauders living in Sweden as well, the high income earners who have large interest, job, and ROT tax deductions. They will likely be among the first to book a table at two-star Michelin resaturant Frantzen / Lindeberg in Stockholm. It is all a manner of "basking in the glory" ....

For some reason,  that I can not figure out, Måns Vestin in Stockholm, got a "Liljeholmens" (to get a Liljeholmens means to get something figured out, not knowing how),
and admitted in his own, Swedish article, that he has taken advantage of a sick Swedish tax system, gaining $15000 per year .... Kudos Måns!

My coffee is only lukewarm now, so it will get 20 seconds in my KitchenAid microwave ...

The last verse now.
Damn the one who complains when Farmer Englund buys a new BMW, rebuilds his house for $2M, with help of legal?? labor workers from Bulgaria and takes 3 months holiday in the Maldives .... provided there is WiFi, so he can check his cow cameras every hour ...
He hasn't done anything else than recycled stolen Swedish tax money from abroad, and relegated them back out of Sweden.

Ps. As he lies there on the Maldivian beach, so says Frantzen to Englund ... "We made that one pretty good ...". Lindenberg lies next and agrees ....

"One man's bread, the other's death"

My wife Tess, woke up just now, time for more coffee .... trying a Starbucks K-cup this time ...

Have a Good Morning
